Anand Karaj : Sikh Marriage System
Sikh religion revolutionised the social structure prevalent at the time of
inception of this religion. The Gurus made calculated efforts to take out
the Indians from the futile rituals, ceremonies, rites and customs. At that
time Marriage system was very much corrupt and needed immediate attention for
its renovation. Keeping all these points in view, Guru Nanak Dev emancipated
the plight of women folk and Guru Amar Dass the 3rd Guru changed the whole
scenerio by initiating Anand Marriage system. With the advent of this system
the role of priests and Brahmins was reduced to nill and more respectable
system of Anand Karaj meaning blissful marriage was evolved and propogated.
With the efforts of later Gurus 'Anand Karaj', the Sikh marriage system became
very popular having sanctity of sprituality imbued in it. The book
Anand Marriage system highlights various features which make this system very
